Where do people spend the most time on social media?

On average, internet users around the world spent 2 hours and 23 minutes a day on social media last year, but trends vary widely by country, as the latest Global Web Index comparative study shows .

It is in emerging markets that we spend the most time on social media on average. A result influenced in particular by demographic factors, these countries having a proportionally younger population than the high-income economies. Thus, Philippines connect on average 4 hours per day to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others and there are also high averages (between 2 and 3 hours per day) in Nigeria and India. We spend an average of just under 2 hours a day on social networks in the United States, about 1.5 hours in United Kingdom and “only” 45 minutes in Japan. For information, the share of 15-24 year olds represents 11,in France and 9.6% in Japan, compared to almost 20% in the Philippines and Nigeria.

As digital habits and habits evolve, it is important for marketers and advertisers to stay abreast of market trends and demographic trends unique to different regions of the world.
