Africa still dependent on agricultural imports

In 2016, the continent imported more than $ 65 billion worth of food, according to the Trade Law Center for Southern Africa (Tralac), which could reach $ 110 billion by 2025. Five countries ( Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Morocco and Nigeria) accounted for 50% of these foreign imports, 84% of which came from outside the continent. The private agribusiness sector in Africa therefore still largely faces international competition.
