South African Airways (SAA) and Africa World Airlines have signed an agreement to offer Nigerian travellers direct connection to Washington DC, USA.
The interline e-ticket agreement will see SAA issue one flight-ticket to passengers from either Lagos or Abuja in Nigeria, enabling them to fly to Washington via Accra, Ghana.
“The South African Airways and Africa World Airlines partnership is the shortest gateway to travel to Washington, providing about 11-hour trip from West Africa to Washington and with the core values of reliability and exceptional service, both airlines are set to give passengers wonderful flying experience,” said SAA Regional Manager, North, West and Central Africa, Ohis Ehimiaghe.
The deal is a strategic move for Africa World Airlines, which provides four weekly South African Airways-Accra-Washington flights and 37 frequencies weekly flights from Lagos and Abuja to Accra.
SAA National Sales Manager for Nigeria, Kemi Leke-Bamtefa, remarked that the agreement marks the beginning of a strong relationship as SAA had been in discussions with the airline for a full codeshare agreement, Punch reported.
A member of the Star Alliance, South African Airways (SAA) is the flag carrier airline of South Africa. In partnership with South African Express, Airlink and its low-cost carrier, Mango, the airline flies to 56 destinations in South Africa, continental Africa and around the world from its Johannesburg hub, using a fleet of 47 aircraft.
